5 Types of Content You Can Create with Life Lapse
Our stop motion app, Life Lapse, is built as a powerful mobile video editing app to help you create eye catching videos using your phone. While it is thoughtfully-designed for stop motion, it can also be used to create other types of multimedia content that you have likely seen on social media. In this blog, we’ll walk you through the 5 types of videos you can create with Life Lapse.
Stop Motion
A stop motion is a series of photos pieced together at a fast pace to give the illusion of an object moving on its own and our video editing app is designed just for this. We focused on creating features like an interval timer so you can avoid touching your phone for the smoothest stop motion, to the Ghost feature (or similar to “onion skin” in the stop motion world) so you can see where your next shot should be, to the reverse feature that makes creating stop motions that much easier. You can find our tutorial on how to create a stop motion like a pro here where you can learn the basics of stop motion in under 7 minutes.
GIF
GIF stands for graphical interchange format which is a file format, similar to a .MOV movie file or .JPEG for photo file. However, in the world of content creation, a “GIF-style video” is more than just a file format. It’s become a term used for a short looping video sequence made of images that loop continuously and autoplays.
Now what’s the difference between a stop motion and a GIF? A stop motion is when there is an object that moves on its own through the photos pieced together and there are typically more photos in comparison to a GIF that tells a story or animation. A GIF on the other hand is short with a few photos (2-5 photos) pieced together to create a video. Technically you can save a stop motion video into GIF format. What we’re referring to when we say “GIF-style” is the short video loop you often see in memes. A GIF-style video can also be saved in a non-GIF file format. The video below is an example of what we would refer to as a GIF style video. It’s a sequence of photos of an action happening. There is no manipulation in the video, meaning we’re not moving objects between one shot.
Time Lapse
Time lapses are exactly what the name says: lapses of time. It is a technique where you capture images throughout a duration of time to showcase time moving faster when the clips are stitched together and played at a faster speed. An example is if you were to take images of the sky and the changes of dawn to dusk throughout the day. When played together, you’ll create a video where time is moving fast and lapsing.
Another popular example of a time lapse is a pregnancy bump progression video showing your bump growing week by week. You can watch our tutorial here on how to create it with your phone and our super handy Ghost feature.
Hyperlapse
A hyperlapse is also known as a moving time lapse. The technique requires you to move the camera a short distance between shots and played at a fast pace. A stop motion is where the object moves while a hyperlapse is where the camera moves.
Creative Videos
While Life Lapse is the best for creating stop motions on your phone, it is also a very powerful mobile video editing app that allows you to easily create and edit videos on your phone. The example below is a take on the popular TikTok trend from last year and was made with Life Lapse. You can use our app to create all kinds of videos.
Which types of these videos have you tried creating with Life Lapse? To learn how to create them, we have dozens of tutorials in our app under the Academy or you can find them here.
