Elf is Blowing a Pinwheel | Elf on the Shelf Ideas 2022
IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!! But that doesn’t mean you have to go all out to enjoy it. As the days speed by, be sure to take a moment or two to soak in all things Festive. This may mean you whip out a few Elf on the Shelf ideas that are a bit more lowkey, but still magical all the same.
This Elf idea, using stop motion, will do just the trick to leave your kids wondering how the little pinwheel is moving without any wind inside your home.
What you’ll need:
iPhone or Android with our app, Life Lapse
Tripod or DIY tripod
Elf on the Shelf, of course
Props: in this case, we used a pinwheel food topper, but if you are feeling creative create your own or use anything around the home that will give you a similar effect
Step 1: Set up your Elf with the pinwheel (or your movable object), and lock exposure, focus and white balance to make for a smooth transition. Set up your interval timer to take a photo every 5 or 10 seconds or use a bluetooth remote if you have one with the pro version of our app.
Step 2: Start with Elf and the pinwheel in position. Take a photo.
Step 3: Move the pinwheel or object a little bit. Wait for a photo to be taken.
Step 4: Continue until the pinwheel or movable object is one move away from completing a full cycle.. Make sure to only move the object (and not the Elf) a little at a time, so that the video is the smoothest it can be!
Step 5: Launch the editor. Speed up the video, adjust the brightness, or leave it as is so it seamlessly loops a few times (hence why you stop taking photos once the movable object is one move away from completing a full cycle) or make any other adjustments to perfect the video.
