We’re nearing the end of October, which means it is time to get into Halloween overdrive! And while we probably won’t be going to Halloween parties or haunted houses anytime soon, there are still loads of opportunities to play around with candies and Halloween themes for your October themed content!

This is one of the videos we shot as part of our Fall Content Ideas for Instagram series! In this one, we spooked it up a bit with a fun ghost and some scary lollipops. 👻 🍭

Best of all, this video took only five minutes to film!

That’s right!

Five.

Keep reading below to see exactly how we achieved this stop motion video using our app, Life Lapse.

What you’ll need:

  • Tripod setup or DIY tripod

  • iPhone or Android with our app, Life Lapse

  • Poster boards in assorted colors

  • various lollipops

  • Halloween-themed decor, such as our little tin ghost!

Step 1: Set up your lighting and adjust exposure.

Step 2: For this, we will be shooting in reverse. So, start with your setup and props styled as it would be at the end. Take a photo.

Step 3: Start moving the outer two rows of lollipops out of frame. This should be slow, with little movements. Take a photo.

Step 4: Move the outer rows a little more. Take another photo.

Step 5: Continue the previous step until all of the outer two rows of lollipops exit the frame.

Step 6: With the lollipops that remain in the center, style them all so that the stems angle in one direction. Take a photo.

Step 7: Repeat the previous step until the lollipop stems are angled to touch the lollipop beside them.

Step 8: Begin to animate the lollipops out of frame. Pick one lollipop to lead the way, and adjust it so it begins to move out. Make all the other lollipops move around the circle in the direction of the lead lollipop. Take a photo.

Step 9: Continue the above step until all the lollipops exit the frame. Make sure all the movements are small so that the stop motion is fluid.

Step 10: Hit play and open the editor. Reverse the video so that it gives the effect of coming in.

Step 11: Boomerang the video so that it continually loops. Set a freeze effect for the last frame so that it flows better. Crop, edit brightness and make any other adjustments.

Step 12: Save and share! Tag us at @lifelapse_app or #lifelapse on Instagram.
