The Best Podcasts for Your Way To, From, and At Work

So, you’re working from home now, which means you’re probably at the point where your couch has perfectly formed to your shape. Or, if you’re like us — you’ve infinitely multiplied the number of days you spend working in your pyjamas.

While work-from-home has its perks (hello, endless supply of coffee and lunches that involve something other than a soggy sandwich), it’s also made it a little difficult to maintain the same career passion and enthusiasm. We love work from home, we do, but not being able to see the strides your coworkers are making to better themselves daily has definitely been a little demotivating.

So, where do we turn? To podcasts, of course— probably the closest thing you’ll get to water cooler banter until everything calms down. Podcasts can be informational and educational, but they also feel, in a lot of ways, like having lunch with the girls— which makes them the perfect vessel for inspiration and motivation.

There are about a million and one podcasts out there. We would know, as we spent six hours in the black hole that is Spotify’s podcast page. But, what podcasts are the best? What are the safe-for-work podcasts, the drive-to-work podcasts, the #GirlBoss podcasts? What podcasts will help keep your mental gears turning and your fire ablaze in this uncertain season? Keep reading below to find out!

Safe-For-Work Podcasts:

When it comes to safe-for-work podcasts (in case you accidentally hit the play button on a Zoom call, or get a surprise virtual visit from your boss), there are a few that are at the top of our charts. While they all range in topic and audience, they continue to inspire while maintaining a level of professionalism— just in case your bluetooth speaker decides to make an unwelcome appearance.

Bay Street Bull: Mission Critical

Mission Critical is hosted by Bay Street Bull’s own Editor-In-Chief, Lance Chung. Focusing on sharing and exploring the pursuit of success, and what drives inspiring leaders. The podcast picks up where the print edition of the magazine leaves off, but the episodes work great as a stand-alone, so no need to worry! The podcast features a range of success stories. Some traditional, such as Dr. Kamran Khan (CEO of BlueDot) and Joey Zwillinger (CEO of Allbirds). Others, less traditional, such as serial entrepreneur, Michele Romanow, who is also an investor on Dragons’ Den. Another feature includes an interview with Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, who beat out 15,000 other girls to star in Netflix and Mindy Kaling’s new show. Mission Critical takes a look at what defines success and how it is achieved, and with only four episodes out so far, we are eager to see where this podcast leads!

The No Formula Podcast

As hinted by the name, the No Formula podcast focuses on the range of ways to achieve success. After all, there is no formula. Episodes include tips for growing on Linkedin with Richard Moore, tips for successfully creating online communities, and even an interview with a familiar face…Life Lapse’s founder, Sarah Boland.

Drive-To-Work Podcasts:

While your morning commute might be a little different now (AKA non-existent), there’s still something so encouraging about a good drive-to-work podcast. To us, drive-to-work podcasts are defined by their transparency, general enthusiasm and realness: they are just transparent enough to both tell you the truth about success (and the failures that continually come with it), and to inspire you to do, and be, better. And while the commute aspect is more or less gone from our lives, we still love and adore this category of inspirational podcasts! Even if your commute is just from your bedroom to the coffee machine. 😂

The Jasmine Star Show

The conversational, casual aspect of podcasts like The Jasmine Star Show is exactly why we love commute podcasts so much. This podcast feels like an old friend. With topics ranging from how homeschooling fosters entrepreneurial mindsets, how to take better Instagram photos for your business and brand, and a pep talk when the negative customers get you down, this podcast perks us up almost as much as a jolt of caffeine does!
