Elf Zip-lines Into Christmas | Elf on the Shelf Ideas 2022

For Parents Only! Parents, are you looking for new funny Elf on the Shelf ideas for 2020? Want to see your kids jaws' drop from seeing Elf caught on camera i...

It’s nearly December 1st, meaning you’re probably expecting a Christmas visitor around the house sometime soon! That’s right, Elf is bound to make his yearly appearance at any moment now.

One of our favorite holiday traditions, Elf on the Shelf, is here to keep an eye on your kids and get up to all kinds of mischief. But we know that year after year it becomes harder to think up creative positions and stories for Elf: there’s only so many times you can find him hiding in the sock drawer or behind a jar of cookies! 🍪🍪

This year, we’ve had our own Christmas elves work extra hard behind the scenes to bring you countless Elf on the Shelf video ideas! From spa night to a red carpet rollout, we’ve got you covered when it comes to creative ways to display your elf this year!

Interested in learning more about how we achieved this zip-lining elf video using our app, Life Lapse? Keep reading below to find out.

What you’ll need:

  • iPhone or Android with our app, Life Lapse

  • Tripod or DIY tripod

  • Elf on the Shelf, of course!

  • Props: we used a Christmas garland and two candy canes taped together!

Step 1:  Set up your Elf and tripod/camera set up. Lock the exposure and white balance of your video to make sure that the lighting is consistent. When it comes to the zip-line garland, make sure it is a horizontal line— it will be nearly impossible for you to pause Elf mid-climb if the garland is vertical! Tie the garland very tight.

Step 2: Hang Elf with candy canes onto the garland! Take a photo. Move Elf a little bit, and take another photo!

Step 3: Make sure not to sit on the bed or couch the garland is hanging from while readjusting Elf! This is so that the couch or bed doesn’t get creased and look like they moved.

Step 4: Continue until Elf is across the rope.

Step 5: Edit your video! Adjust speed, filters, and make any other edits you would like!

Step 6: Save and share. Make sure to tag us @lifelapse_app and #lifelapse! For Elf-specific content, check out the hashtag #elfontheshelfvideo for more inspo.

That’s it for our Elf on the Shelf Zip-lining video idea! We hope you enjoyed this one just as much as we enjoyed making it. Let us know if you have any fun Elf on the Shelf ideas for this season below!
