Coffee Video Tutorial | Fall Content Ideas for Instagram

I don’t know about where you are in the world, but here in Vancouver, the beautiful warm-ish fall days with the changing leaves and a light breeze… doesn’t. last. long. So we gotta fake it and make it last a little longer to show on social media (obvs). In 4 hours, we were able to create 15 fall-themed stop motion videos for Instagram and all from our iPhones. If you’re not already content batching, you need to get on it! It saves you so much time to be able to plan out most of your month.

This is part 3 of 15 from our Fall Content Ideas for Instagram. In this video, we picked up some beautiful leaves from outside and had a little fun with it dancing around a coffee mug. Can you take a guess on how long it took us to film this?

2.5 MINUTES.

You heard that right. Let’s get to it!

What you’ll need:

  • Leaves

  • A mug filled with your favorite fall drink

  • An overhead tripod or a table - you can see how we use a table as a tripod hack here

  • Your phone and our free stop motion app, Life Lapse (available on Android or iOS)

  • Any backdrop - we used a white foam core

  • Bluetooth remote (optional)

Step 1: Get your lighting right and find something to stabilize your phone. Tip: for small shoots like this, use a table instead of an overhead tripod as the set up is minimal. You can also find other tripod hacks here. For lighting, use a lamp and close the blinds! This will avoid the flickering you see in stop motions which is due to the light changing as you are capturing your shots.

Step 2: Set up your scene with a background (we used a white foam core), our beverage and place the leaves. The animation we’re creating here is the leaves disappearing one at a time.

Step 3: Press the blue “+” button to start your stop motion video. Lock your exposure and white balance.

Step 4:  Take your first photo, remove a leaf and take another photo. Repeat this process until you’ve done this to all of the leaves. We recommend using a bluetooth remote (available for Life Lapse Pro) so you can avoid touching your phone as much as possible for the smoothest of stop motions.

Step 5: Press play to see your work and start editing! New to stop motion editing? We have an introduction to editing here. Here are the exact editing steps we took in this video but feel free to edit however you like:

  • Cropped it

  • Tilt to readjust and center the cup

  • Contrast to make the black pop

  • Reverse it to give the illusion of the leaves being added instead of taken away

Step 6: Save and share!
