Halloween Social Media Content for 2020 | Fall Content Ideas for Instagram
We know the feeling of being stuck and not knowing what to post on Instagram all too well. But when creativity strikes, it’s ✨magic✨. Well, creativity struck us last week so we decided to challenge ourselves to try to create as many stop motion videos for fall and Halloween as possible, and all with our iPhone. 4 hours later and 15 videos later, we were wiped! Sharing is caring so we’re giving you ALL the deets. This is part 2 of 15 in our Instagram fall content ideas for you to use on social media. Subscribe to our YouTube, follow us on Instagram or keep an eye out here on the blog for the rest of the tutorials. We hope you enjoy!
What you’ll need:
Candy corn or any Halloween candy of your choice
A product you want to feature, in our example we used a handbag
An overhead tripod or a table - you can see how we use a table as a tripod hack here
Your phone and our free stop motion app, Life Lapse (available on Android or iOS)
Any backdrop - we used a white foam core, a pink poster paper and a orange poster paper
Fall/Halloween props - we used mini pumpkins and some leaves
Bluetooth remote (optional)
Step 1: The key to stop motion is consistent lighting and a stable phone. To achieve this, we closed our blinds and used a light or a lamp for direct lighting. We used a table that is a hack for an overhead tripod. You can learn the hacks here or see some of our fav Amazon stop motion equipment here.
Step 2: Set up your scene. We put down the white foam core, then placed the colored poster paper and our props on top. The animation we want to create in this video is the candy coming out of the bowl.
Step 3: Press the blue “+” button to start a new project in Life Lapse. Lock your exposure and white balance. We are going to film this backwards with the candy already in the bowl (don’t worry, we’ll reverse it later!)
Step 4: Take your first photo of the set up, then take a couple of candy corns at a time and line them up. Capture your next photo. Take some more candy corn out and line it up, take another photo and repeat! If you accidentally move the bowl while you’re taking out candy, use our ghost feature to align it back up. We’re also using our bluetooth remote (only available for Life Lapse Pro) but you can also use our built-in interval timer too. You want to avoid touching your phone for a smooth stop motion.
Step 5: Press play to see your work and start editing! New to stop motion editing? We have an introduction to editing here. Here are the exact editing steps we took in this video but feel free to edit however you like:
Rotate it
Increase the speed
Reverse it
Delete any clips that were jolty
Freeze effect on the last effect
Step 6: You’re done! Save, share and watch your social media engagement increase with stop motion. If you recreated this idea, please tag us and use hashtag #lifelapse so we can see.
